I found a beautiful Japanese paper made from Kozo, dyed by the plant. It felt very Japanese and I wanted to make it into something exotic. At the time, I was collecting old photographs. I particularly loved the images of Eros in La Belle Epoque by Patrick Waldberg, which was published by Grove Press. These antique nudes and photos of prostitutes were very exotic and were the opposite of the smooth, hand-made paper.
