Ocean
In 1985, I became an artist in residence at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. I learned how to scuba dive at Waikiki Beach and became fascinated with the Hawaiian ocean. The exhilarating feeling of diving was the closest thing in my mind to flying. My Buddhist name, Ekai means "Merciful Sea." I wanted to dive into the bountiful ocean.
