Storyville Portraits

In 1970, I had seen an exhibition of photographs by E.J. Bellocq at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. They were sepia-toned portraits of semi-nude women, prostitutes from the red light district of New Orleans. They seemed like unfortunate women, but I loved the photographs and I wanted to show these women in color. I wanted to say to them, "You are so beautiful. I remember you."
